The Stoplight Strategy
Help your students organize their research about influential African Americans or any race from our past using the STOPLIGHT strategy.
Even though Black History Month is coming up, you can still teach important skills such as:
RED: Obstacles or challenges that STOPPED the person from trying to accomplish their goals. Or, how the person didn’t STOP trying something.
YELLOW: Hurdles that tried to SLOW them down.
GREEN: What they were able to accomplish, how they made a difference, how they changed the world for the better, etc.
So the next time your students or children say "I don't know what to say or what to write about so-and-so," you can teach them how to break their ideas down into the 3 different categories on the stop light.
